Dear Friend of the Jewish Home,

We are pleased to announce that the Auerbach Geriatric Psychiatry Unit, headed by Dr. Nitin Nanda, has been certified as an LPS facility by Los Angeles County. The new designation expands our already impressive spectrum of senior psychiatric care services by allowing the Auerbach Unit to admit patients on an involuntary basis.

Helping to bridge the technology gap between the generations is a great joy and a new mission for the Home's internet-savvy volunteer, Susan Fien. In this month's e-News, you'll read about how, with Susan's help, Jewish Home residents are using Skype, a free teleconferencing application, to reach out to family members across the nation and around the world.

The cultural life of Jewish Home residents includes a diverse calendar of offsite performances and events. Last week's presentation at the West Hills JCC featured Ed Asner in conversation with Aaron Levinson of The Executives, a Jewish Home support group. The event was attended by over twenty residents, and was the talk of Eisenberg Village.

Safety awareness for seniors, especially independent seniors at home, begins with preventing falls. In this month's e-News you'll learn about a fascinating European study that discovered an unexpected cause in a substantial percentage of these accidents, and some helpful suggestions to prevent them.
